Students across Southern California have joined the Junior State of America out of a shared passion for politics, government, and foreign affairs. These JSAers make up the SoCal state, boasting 94 high school chapters and about 2,463 tax-paid members.
Founded in 1934, JSA is the largest student run-organization in the country and allows for an exchange of ideas through stimulating student debates, problem solving and a variety of simulations. By participating in these activities, each member gains a more intelligent and informed viewpoint. Read our Mission Statement here.
The largest of all the JSA states, SoCal is composed of three regions: Angeles Region, Southern Empire Region, and Channel Islands Region. Since its break with the NorCal State in 1984, it has been dedicated to fostering an appreciation for politics among students. They attend three large overnight conventions a year, in addition to a variety of regional one-day conferences.
Californian JSA alumni include current Mayor of Los Angeles Eric Garcetti, Senator Joe Sitian, Senator Nicholas Petris, former Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta, former Attorney General Ed Meese, state Treasurer Bill Lockyer, and former Secretary of Commerce Norman Mineta.
