Alvin Song, Mayor

29169036065_be8f0cdb54_oAlvin Song is a senior at Crescenta Valley High School in La Crescenta, and has been a part of JSA since his sophomore year. He is currently the chapter president at his school and now serves as Angeles Region Mayor. Alvin is a summer graduate of the 2015 Stanford JSA program and was previously the AR Director of Expansion for 2015‐2016.

Along with JSA, he is the president of a community organizing club, Club Ops, and Group Gratitude, a club dedicated to helping the homeless and giving back to the community. He enjoys playing guitar and listening to music in his free time. Alvin looks forward to being the AR Mayor for 2016‐2017. He’s excited for the new year and wants to give back to both the region and the state, making it the best in all of JSA.

 

 

 

Rohun Vora, Vice Mayor

29169035635_066e3ef681_oRohun Vora is a senior at Whitney High School. He became involved heavily with politics when he worked with the Bernie Sanders Campaign for President throughout 2015 and 2016. This led him to join the Junior State and since then he has attended every possible event. He loves JSA and wants to continue to make it better than it already is.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Jad ​Hagekhalil, Director of Debate

Jad attended his very first JSA conference his freshman year and immediately fell in love with the welcoming and intellectual atmosphere. Since then, he has attended multiple overnight conferences and has energized and grown his small chapter and will continue to do so as this year’s chapter president. Aside from attending JSA and indulging himself in political updates on CNN, Jad is the Director General of his school’s MUN program and Head Coach of Whitney’s very own mock trial time. In his spare time he enjoys playing pickup basketball games with his friends and watching WWE with his little sister. Jad looks forward to making the AR region rich in intense and intellectual debating that is relevant to our modern society.

 

 

 

Bryan Dong, Director of Media and Publicity

29063355072_7c4102e9d2_oBryan Dong is a Senior at Diamond Bar High School, and he has participated in JSA for two years. He has attended six state conventions, as well as two summer school sessions at both Princeton and Georgetown, studying International Relations and Constitutional Law respectively.

Outside of JSA, Bryan is involved with Model United Nations, Mock Trial, and golf. He also runs a nonprofit that helps developing countries access the global marketplace, while also participating in public forum debate.

 

 

 

 

Elaine Kim, Director of Growth and Revival

29091104621_999b82bf05_oElaine Kan is a junior at Glendale High School. Growing up, she disliked being looked down on for not sharing similar political opinions with others. After attending her first convention, she found her safe haven where she could freely and proudly voice her views and ideas. It was all of the open arms welcoming Elaine that inspired her to become one young individual’s political voice amongst thousands of others’ in JSA and millions around the world.

Ever since joining, Elaine has been more civically engaged within and also outside of JSA. She has attended three state conventions and actively participates for her city’s elected official’s Assembly District campaign.

Outside of JSA, Elaine loves to participate in marathons, volunteer at her local pet adoption center, and learn new languages. At school, she is active in Key Club, archery, Red Cross, and National Honors Society.

 

 

 

Zachary Hagen‐Smith, Events Coordinator

29091105101_a214f25fe9_oZachary Hagen‐Smith is a sophomore at John Burroughs High School. Zachary first became involved in JSA during his freshman year. He was immediately in love with the way JSA coupled his age‐old love of arguing with his passion for history and the social sciences. A year later, Zachary is now secretary of the Burroughs JSA chapter. Through JSA, Zachary became interested and involved in politics, leading him to help start a California High School Democrats and Amnesty International chapter at his school. Zachary is also involved in Habitat For Humanity and the JBHS Drama Department. In his free time Zachary enjoys reading, cooking, and bingeing “Mr Robot”.
